The wisdom of summer solstice for women in midlife

This is one of my favorite days of the year, when the light lingers and the summer unfurls with promise and possibility.

This year, with all that is swirling around us, it’s been harder to ease into the magic of summertime.

But I got to thinking about the solstice as a metaphor for midlife as a woman. I have long thought of myself as someone big and bright in the world but as I got to this stage of life, I realized the ways I’d played small, how I tried to minimize qualities or quell desires that didn’t feel pretty or polite, or made people around me uncomfortable.

Midlife has offered the chance for a new beginning: an almost violent reset, as I’ve shed a thousand long-held beliefs about myself in favor of something more raw, more wild, more essential.

Breathe in the light
Breathe in the light

In moving through this, I found a quiet power that had been waiting inside me.

It emboldened me to express myself more freely.

It showed me how to love more tenderly, and fiercely, but with more discernment.

I’ve learned when to release what no longer fits, and when to hold fast to what truly matters.

Perhaps there is a greater lesson in that, as we endure a collective dark night of the soul, and look within, to reclaim our sovereignty.

The shadow feels longer this solstice, but it only deepens the truth: darkness isn’t the enemy of light, they are part of the same sacred cycle.

🌞 Solstice Medicine for Midlife Women 🌞

The sun is at its peak today.

A moment of radiance and power

And if you're a woman in midlife, this season might stir that feeling of power within you.

Midlife is its own kind of solstice. When you're no longer dimming yourself for anyone else.

When the old stories melt in the heat of your truth.

Burning off what no longer fits and reclaiming what’s been waiting inside you for years.

So let the solstice remind you:

✨ Your light is not too much.

✨ What we call the middle is, in fact, a new beginning

Breathe in the light.Exhale what you’re done carrying.

And step forward, in full bloom.
